Chandigarh: In a surprising and emotional turn of events, India’s star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has officially reversed her decision to retire, announcing that she will return to competitive wrestling with a firm goal in sight—the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Months after stepping away from the mat and briefly entering politics, Vinesh has reignited hopes among fans and the wrestling fraternity. In a heartfelt post shared on social media, she revealed that her journey in the sport is far from over.

According to Vinesh, ever since the Paris Olympics, people repeatedly asked whether that had been her final bout. “For a long time, I didn’t know the answer,” she wrote. She admitted that she needed time away—from the sport, the pressure, the expectations, and even her own dreams.
During this break, she realised how deeply she still loved wrestling and how strongly she missed the competitive spirit. The silence, she said, made her confront a truth she had overlooked—the fire within her had never gone out; it was simply buried under exhaustion and noise.

Vinesh affirmed that her discipline, her fighting spirit, and her desire to stand on the mat remain as strong as ever. With renewed determination, she now begins her journey toward LA28.
Adding an emotional touch, Vinesh mentioned that this comeback will be even more special because her young son will be by her side throughout—her biggest inspiration and her “little cheerleader.”
Her announcement has already sparked a wave of excitement among sports fans, with many hopeful that one of India’s most decorated wrestlers will script a memorable new chapter in Los Angeles.
